My name is Ms. Melissa Kennedy and I am originally from Alexandria, Louisiana. I have also lived in Jonesboro, Bogalusa, Slidell, and Baton Rouge, LA; as well as Key West, FL; Gulfport, MS; Alpharetta, Cumming, Fayetteville, and Austell, GA; and Knoxville, TN. In 2003 I purchased a home in Douglasville, GA and I have been there ever since. I taught third grade in Baton Rouge, LA. Upon moving to GA, I started teaching middle school math. I taught 12 years of middle school math, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and the past 2 years here at East Cobb, I taught Physical Science. This is my 16th year as a teacher and I have enjoyed working with students.
I graduated from Louisiana State University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Education, from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2002 with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and from Walden University in 2013 with a Specialist Degree in Instructional Technology. While attending LSU, I was a member of The Golden Band from Tigerland! I was a piccolo/flute player. I still play my flute at church.
I have two cats, Smokey and Tiger. Smokey really thinks he is a dog and actually plays fetch with bottle caps. They both are always waiting for me by the door, each day, when I get home. They are friendly, playful, and pretty hilarious. I love teaching, reading, technology, math, photography, and my tv shows.
